Future Build 2024 19 Mar 2024

Recently, studioNWA attended Future Build 2024. An event all about building a better future for the built environment, providing inspiring ideas, innovative solutions and knowledge sharing to drive sustainable construction to help reach the goal of net zero.

One of the highlights was a conversation with Mina Hasman, author of RIBA Climate Guide and inspiring Futurebuild speaker who advocates for upskilling architects and industry-wide engagement to accelerate climate action in the built environment. Data centre case studies are needed for benchmarking and to identify best practices in the sector, opening an opportunity for collaboration with clients and design teams to align efforts towards net zero.

Another particularly interesting talk was on ‘Ramping up retrofit’, highlighted a non-profit organisation: National Retrofit Hub with Innovate UK ( Innovate UK – UKRI ) amongst the sponsors, and RAFT (Retrofit Action for Tomorrow) a leading practice specialising in Retrofit and community based projects, with school engagement workshops. Both talks were particularly inspiring, especially when Rachael (NRH) touched on Property log books. The talk highlighted the need to create more action around retrofit to create buildings out of our existing structures. They also further highlighted the how improving performance and minimising energy use is a challenge welcomed.
