In 2018, studioNWA had the opportunity to help our client achieve outline planning permission for a new data centre building to adjoin their existing campus in East India Dock.

The overall development was planned to provide the end user with a 10 storey data centre building, between 60 and 65m height, with seven data halls, each of approximately 1,300m². The cooling of the IT equipment was envisaged to be by adiabatic cooling units (IAC) installed on an external multi-storey gantry.

The design of the proposed new building was informed by various site analysis including noise, ecology, traffic, energy and air quality assessments, pre-application discussions with the LPA and the GL, a public consultation and by the design of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure requirements.

The design was so robust and well informed that it was approved by the LBTH committee in 2019, after under 5 mins of consideration!
