In 2020, studioNWA was invited by Telehouse to produce a feasibility study first, to be followed by full design later, for the refurbishment of the then headquarters of Thomson Routers Corporation in Blackwall. The building, originally designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners had been completed in 1992, and was conceived as a mixed development consisting of office and data centre.

The brief was to redesign the building’s structure and infrastructure, along with architectural layout to convert it into a fully supported 8 multi storey data centre building in line with current industry standards.

The block, held in high esteem by residents, planners and designers alike, was of outstanding architectural quality and although not listed, minimising the impact to the envelope was paramount to studioNWA.

The end result is an adaptation that has ensured the building will prevail and serve for many years to come, whilst introducing virtually no changes to its aesthetics or presence in the city urban scape.
